Our swim sessions consist of indoor pool training and open water swimming. They cater to beginners, intermediates and advanced swimmers but if you are not sure what level you are at then speak to one of our coaches.
Coached sessions
These are both coached and designed to improve your technique, speed and other similar skills such as starts, turns, sighting and diving. Drafting is another feature.
The swim technique used in triathlon is front crawl although you will see people in triathlons using breaststroke. But whilst front crawl is the preferred stroke it is still a good idea to practise other techniques such as breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly stroke.
These help to build strength and endurance.
Open water swimming
Indoor pool swimming is not a problem but it is the open water swim which many triathletes find daunting. There is a skill to swimming in a large expanse of water which includes learning to ‘sight’ and tumble turns (also known as ‘teddy bear’ turns)
However, our friendly, experienced coaches will help you to overcome this fear and instruct you in the techniques needed for the open water swim stage.
The indoor pool sessions take place as follows:
Fridays, 7pm to 8pm.
Newcastle Community Pool
Sundays, 6pm to 7pm.
Fenton Manor Pool (over 16years)
Open water sessions at Boundary Park and Blithfield Reservoir start again in spring 2012
